Anne Ferguson is the owner of Schaefer’s Ladies Wear, a women’s fashion destination since 1929 and an iconic department store located on the Square in Goderich.  As a fashion enthusiast, Anne loves everything about being a store owner. From start to finish, from buying clothes for the next season to getting excited when she sees items that specific customers will love, to the chatter and laughter that take place in the store as women are shopping and having fun and finding clothes that they love, Anne loves it all.


Anne reached out because she wanted to update the branding and messaging of Schaefer’s and with all of the lockdowns taking place during COVID, she wanted to be able to continue to stay open to her customers online. 


After being referred to Becky through word-of-mouth, Anne reached out. “I wanted to keep it local and it was very important that I keep it local and I had heard really good things about Becky’s work,” said Anne. So Becky and Anne collaborate and Becky wrote an entirely new message for Schaefer’s, one that reflected their current image while also honouring their rich history in the community. 


Here’s what Anne had to say about her experience with Becky. 


What did you like about the process of working together?

I loved the process of gathering the information and creating the messaging. I really liked having my website done by someone from the local area. You took the time to get to know who we are not just as the business but as the history. We are a family, we are a story and I really like how you researched the history. I liked how involved I was in the process that it was getting to know me, getting to know the business, it felt like before you even got started, you got to know us and know our personality and got a feel for what I would like before I even told you.” 


What was your reaction to your new copywriting and brand message?

“I loved it! I was reading it and thinking – that’s exactly what I want to say but I can never put it into words. I’ve had so much positive feedback from customers who love the new site.”


“The new website is a 100% improvement over our last one. We’ve had many people reach out and book personal styling appointments, call us and order over the phone and visit us in the store because of the website. The messaging is helping our customers connect with us and buy from us in ways our old site never did.”


It was money well spent and 100% I would do it again in a heartbeat. I know at some point I’ll have to upgrade it and I’ll definitely be coming back.”
